It gets warmer outside and I feel like fresh, happy colors. That's why I show you in this post, how to easily sew a pretty reversible bag itself. Whether for shopping or for the bathing trip, a self-sewn bag with a cheerful pattern is always an eye-catcher.

A bag in a fresh look not only spread good mood, but is also ideal as a gift and can be filled in addition to small surprises, according to your mood.

Difficulty level 2/5
(suitable for beginners)

Material costs 2/5
(depending on the choice of fabric between EUR 0, - from the remaining utilization and EUR 20, -)

Time expenditure 2/5
(including pattern without extras about 3 hours)

material selection

Here comes the next opportunity to use cotton fabric. In my case, I work with the so-called "fat quaters", which are already pre-cut to squares or rectangles and in perfectly matched color combinations. Since I have to use four "Fat Quaters" to make the inside and outside of my bag, but I want to have a consistent "color" inside and out, I have decided to cut my selected fabrics into strips of equal width and sew together at the same time. In this way, the colors of the pouch pocket are shown to their best advantage.

The amount of material and the cut

I simply drew the cut myself. For this I have taken one of my bags in the desired size as a rough template and the length of the stretcher also stopped directly on the body. I then drew and cut out the whole thing on paper in the material break (only to the middle of the bag). Depending on how big the bag should be and whether you want to use different fabrics and patterns, you can calculate the amount of material or just try by hanging up the pattern.

Tip: If you use motif fabrics, always pay attention to which side up you sew together the two parts, so that the subject is then not upside down!

cut out

You need:

  • 2x inner part
  • 2x outdoor part

These are each cut in the material break WITH SEAM ADDITIVE (for me about 0.7cm).

Tip: In order to give the bag more stability, it is advisable to attach to the cut iron-fleece. This will also save you the end of your pieces of fabric.

Anyone who wants to can now attach applications.

It is sewn

First, all fabric parts are finished, unless you have used non-woven!

Then you put the two cut pieces of the outer fabric right side together (ie with the "nice" sides together) and sew the bag around with a single straight line. Remember to sew well at the beginning and end. The carriers remain open for the time being. If you are unsure, you can mark a marker on both sides of the bag at the same height, up to and including the sewn.

You do the same with the inner fabrics. So you have two separate pockets.

Now you turn one of the two bags and put it in the other bag, so that again each "beautiful" sides are on each other. Make sure the side seams line up nicely, and then sew together the two front fabric layers on the left and right sides, and then the back, right to the end of the side seam of the bag (where your mark is). At the straps, you can always sew upwards about 15cm before the end.

Now carefully apply both bags through one of the four straps. The beginning is a bit fizzy, but then everything slips through easily. It now has something of a double-headed octopus with only 4 tentacles.

Then you put a bag in the other and straighten your seams.

Now you take each of the (in my case) the same color carrier ends and sews them up exactly in the middle together. Just sew across and sew at the beginning and end. Make sure that the front and the rear of this "carrier sheet" are the same length, otherwise at the end of the bag hangs askew. You can do this before sewing them together (after straightening the seams) in the top center of the markings.

In the next step, the openings on the straps are closed and in the same train, 3 decorative seams are attached. To do this you fold the still open fabric edges inwards and pin them with pins or Wonderclips and step with the sewing machine all edges of the bag with a simple straight stitch once again edged (so down to the bag marks once around and also a round on the other side of the carrier).

3, 2, 1 ... done!

And the good piece is done!

variations

As you can see from my example, you can also live here creatively free again. Whether applications or remnants, there are no limits to the imagination here. My wallet even looks a bit like patchwork. Now have fun with your new favorite bags!

Quick Guide:

1. Create section (+ seam allowance)
2. Crop with seam allowance and decorate if necessary
3. Sew the bag together, turn it over, put it into each other, sew up the carrier up to 15 cm
4. Turn everything through a carrier
5. Put one bag in the other and arrange
6. Fold open edges of the support inwards, pin them down and finalize with a decorative seam around all openings - that's it!
