manual

Buy from the greengrocer a medium sized radish (about 500 g). If necessary, wash off remnants of soil. Now place the radish with the root down on a cup with a sufficiently large opening so that the radish sticks firmly.

Take the radish down again and cut off a cap that you keep.

Now put the radish on the cup. Then you hollow out a hole in the middle of the radish with a sharp knife. The hole should not be more than half the diameter in width and about 3-5 cm deep.

Do not throw the pulp away. Enjoy your meal!

Fill the hole with candy filling.

Then cover the hole with the cap. This prevents the radish from drying out too quickly and shriveling the opening.

The candy dissolves quickly. After about 6 hours, you can spoon out the first cough syrup. This is best done with a small cappuccino spoon.

Important: never completely fill the hole with candy. It forms so much juice that it overflows.

Depending on the size of the radish you can win about 4-7 days of natural cough syrup. It is recommended to let three to four teaspoons of the syrup melt on the tongue every day.

variants

  • With honey: If you like it sweeter, you can add a teaspoon of honey.
  • With holes in the radish: Who wants to have the juice directly in the cup below, can pierce the radish with a roulade needle several times. The syrup then drains down. However, it is often sticky and with a small cappuccino spoon you can spoon out the juice well.

Worth knowing about black radish

Black radish (Raphanas sativus var. Niger) also known as winter radish, is an annual herbaceous plant. The culture is done by sowing about mid to late July directly into the bed. The sowing depth is about 2-3 cm. After the plantlets are warped to a distance of 25-30 cm, they grow into stately tubers with 200-600 g.

The round black radish grows until the end of November and is then harvested before the first night frosts. For example, the tuber is stored in a box with loose slightly moist sand or in a pit. It keeps the winter vegetables until late winter.

If you buy radish for cough syrup, you can store it as well, because the seasonal vegetables are not available in abundance to buy.

Black radish has a high of vitamin C, B1, B2, iron and calcium.
