Pumpkin seeds unfold after drying a lot of flavor - in the salad or soup, these then additionally provide the necessary bite. But most importantly - Pumpkin seeds are healthy. In addition to phosphorus, iron and zinc, the cores contain important vitamins and proteins. Especially in the cool autumn pumpkin dishes and the seeds should therefore necessarily be on the menu.
Pumpkin seeds dry
The pumpkin seeds consist of a white husk and a green coated core inside. The drying of the kernels is not necessarily necessary for consumption. You can nibble the seeds with peel directly from the pumpkin. But for some, the pods are too hard or cause stomach problems. Therefore, we recommend you either insert or dry the kernels before eating and then peel them.
For drying you need:

Of course, at the beginning you need a pumpkin that you want to process. Whether Butternut, Hokkaido or the Early Harvest as in our example, it should be an edible pumpkin.
Depending on what you want to do with the pumpkin, we open it in different ways:
If you want to eat the pumpkin completely, you can halve it with a knife and remove the seeds from the pulp.
If you want to hollow out and carve a Halloween pumpkin, gently open the pumpkin lid with a sharp kitchen knife. Be careful, you can easily slip through the curves when cutting. Now you can look inside and see directly the cores, pumpkin fibers and the pulp. Now remove the seeds with a spoon. You also scratch the inside of the walls to get all the cores out. Washing pumpkin seeds
If you have removed all seeds from the pumpkin, they are washed. For this, put all seeds into a sieve and wash them thoroughly with warm water. The last remnants of the pulp are rinsed off and can not burn when dried in the oven.
Dry pumpkin seeds in the oven
While you distribute the cores on the baking paper, the oven can be preheated at 180 ° C to 200 ° C.
Lay the cores well distributed over the paper so that they do not overlap. With sufficient distance, the cores can dry regularly and evenly. Then push the tin into the oven for 20 minutes . After 10 minutes, the cores should be turned once with the spatula. It's not that easy, so be careful you do not burn yourself.
Allow to cool and crack
When the baking time is over, the kernels are removed from the oven and set aside to cool. Once fully cooled, the cores can be cracked with your fingers and removed from the sleeve.
Enjoy the seeds immediately or stow them locked and dry in a cool storage area. In this way, the cores are durable and can be used later.
For further processing, we recommend that you then roast the seeds in the pan. With selected spices such as paprika, garlic, salt and pepper, chilli or curry you will succeed in such a wonderful snack. Likewise, the kernels can be enjoyed sweetly with sugar, cinnamon or nutmeg.
