With the loop conjure up his individual touch

The loop scarf can warm, protect against a light breeze or make the stylish touch a discreet outfit. The tube scarf is the perfect accessory for every day. You do not have to be a knit professional to make such a fashion accessory yourself. We will show you step by step how to knit your own loop.

Material and preparation

Basically, you can knit an enchanting tube scarf from almost all knitting materials. For the winter use a warming and thicker wool so that you can accompany the loop through the cold season. For the summer you may choose a light and thin ribbon yarn from mercerized cotton, so you put your own personal touch when shopping or on the promenade. And in spring and autumn beautiful fancy yarns are used. With our simple knitting pattern you can knit for every occasion the right accessory.

We have chosen a special fancy yarn. A yarn that is just as suitable for evening wear as it is for a casual shabby style. This new wool-viscose blend, finished with small sequins, gives your knitting a refined character.

For our loop scarf we needed:

  • 200 grams of fancy yarn interspersed with sequins
  • 1 size 6 knitting needles
  • 1 darning needle

As a knitting pattern we took a very simple drop stitch pattern. With this easy-to-knit pattern even knit beginners can conjure up an effective loop and the knitting works very fast. So you too will score with your own creation after just a few hours.

Before you start knitting, you should of course make a small stitch. Even if you think you can not make a big mistake with a tube scarf, you should still knit a knit. Based on this knitwear you can see exactly how the chosen pattern is compatible with your wool. Because not every knitting pattern achieves the same nice effect on every yarn. You can also vary this needle size with different knitting needles. The needle size can change the knitting pattern to his advantage or disadvantage. Have courage and experiment a little.

In our example, you can clearly see that although the same pattern was knitted, but with a different yarn winding. On the lower part of the stitch sample was wound only once, on the upper part you recognize wonderfully double the winding. For this reason alone, it is important to be able to knit your loop according to your imagination.

Hint: For the knit try about 20 stitches and knit these stitches to a height of about 10 cm in the selected pattern. Now you can use the dimensions, the number of stitches and the number of rows to calculate exactly how many stitches you need to apply to your loop scarf.

Drop stitch pattern for your loop

The drop stitch pattern is characterized by its loose and airy appearance. With this pattern the loop becomes very transparent, for spring and summer the ideal fashion companion. The special feature of this pattern are the longitudinal threads that remain, even if the stitch is dropped. The preceding and following rows, which are knitted with right and left stitches, give the knitting work the necessary stability.

Tip: The drop stitch pattern comes into its own with a fine yarn that is knitted with thicker needles.

Knit drop stitch pattern

1st row: one stitch on the right, one turn, another stitch on the right and an envelope - knit to the end of the needle in this order, the row ends with an envelope and the edge stitch you knit on the right.

2nd row: Take off the edge stitch, simply drop the envelope on the left needle, knit the following stitch on the left, drop the cover and knit the next stitch on the left. In that order, knit to the end of the row, ending with an envelope you drop and an edge stitch that lifts you like a left stitch.

3rd row: edge stitch, knit all stitches on the right, edge stitch

4th row: edge stitch, knit all stitches left, edge stitch

Short description:

1st row:

  • edge stitch
  • envelope
  • right stitch
  • envelope
  • right stitch
  • envelope
  • Continue to knit in this order until the edge stitch

2nd row edge stitch

  • Drop envelope
  • left stitch
  • Drop envelope
  • knit continuously in this order to the edge stitch

3rd row: right stitches

4th row: left stitches

How to knit the edge stitches of the drop stitch pattern:

Each row of this pattern begins and ends with a border stitch. These knit as follows.

In the back row, that is the row knitted with right stitches, also the edge stitch is knitted on the right.
Then do the work and just lift off this edge stitch.

In the following back row, in which all the stitches are knitted on the left, the edge stitch is lifted off like left knitting.

Variants in the drop stitch pattern

In this example of the drop stitches, we only knit one envelope. But you decide how long your drop stitches should be.

You have the following options:

Two envelopes

You do not just work with an envelope, but with two envelopes. This will make your fall stitches pretty long and your knitting will get a breezy character.

However, in our example we did not knit two envelopes, but instead used a much thicker knitting needle for the turn-up series, always putting only one cover. With this knitting needle we knitted only this row with the envelopes, and already in the back row we knitted with the normal needle.

As you can see, the knit pattern of the drop stitches allows you to knit according to your own ideas and thus create your own loop. This also applies to how many rows of knits with right and left stitches put you in between. The pattern in our loop model has four pattern rows, but you can also make six pattern rows from it. Then knit the 5th and 6th rows as well as the 3rd and 4th rows - in the back row, right stitches and in the back row, left stitches.

Tip: What your individual stitch pattern will look like, you can try out wonderful with a stitch sample. In the mesh test, you may experiment and then choose the most beautiful drop stitch pattern. At the same time, the stitch sample is already knitting a little knitting exercise for the pattern.

Now knit your loop with the drop stitch pattern as long as you would like to wear a tube scarf. Our model has a length of 150 cm. He lies loosely and airily around his neck.

When you have reached the desired length, tie off all the stitches in the last row.

Decreasing

1. Knit 2 stitches to the right
2. Lift the first stitch over the second stitch
3. Knit 1 stitch on the right
4. Lift the first stitch over the second stitch again

In this episode all stitches are chained off. The knitting thread is cut to about 20 cm in length and pulled through the loop of the last stitch. Put something on. Now your loop is almost done.

sew together

Your loop is still a scarf. To make it a tube scarf, he must be sewn together. To do this, place the beginning and the end of the scarf together and sew both parts together with the mattress stitch.

mattress stitch

For the mattress stitch use a thicker darning needle as well as the original yarn or a thinner, matching wool thread. We split our fancy yarn, removed the strings with the sequins and sewed the loop together with the remaining wool.

Place the two knitting ends of the scarf with the right side facing each other. Grasp the thread next to the edge stitch on the right part and then the left part of the piece, and then pull the thread through. Use this seam to join the beginning and end of your scarf into a round, closed loop.
Now all you have to do is sew the beginning and end thread and your tube scarf is done. Have fun wearing it.

Warm alternative for the winter

If you want to knit a winter scarf and think that the drop stitch pattern is too holey and too transparent, we show you a variation on how to get a thick, warm loop scarf. With the full patents pattern you knit a warm and extremely cuddly tube scarf, which will be your faithful companion during the cold season.

Material and preparation

To make your loop soft and cuddly, use a soft merino wool. This is a very soft and cuddly yarn that does not scratch and is very durable at the same time. For the winter, the wool thickness may already be thick, a needle size of 7 or 8 is ideal for a warming loop.

Tip: Before you start, the stitch test is absolutely necessary again. Only at the stitch test can you see whether your wool harmonises well with the patent pattern and the needle size. With the full patent pattern, the stitch pattern appears very clear and wonderfully voluminous.

So knit the full patent

1st row edge stitch

  • lift off the following stitch with an envelope on the left
  • knit 1 stitch to the right
  • In this order, knit to the end of the needle
  • edge stitch

2nd row edge stitch

  • lift off the following stitch with an envelope on the left
  • then knit the envelope and the stitched stitch from the front row to the right
  • Now knit this second row in all the following rows and rows

After knitting your knit with your original yarn, you can work out exactly how many stitches you need to apply to your loop.

Tip: If you buy wool, but you do not know for sure whether the pattern suits the wool and you like the knitting work, first buy a ball and let the remaining wool for a few days. In this way, you do not risk buying a wool that may not suit your needs.

In a good specialist shop this possibility of the reserve is self-evident.

Now you have two examples of how to knit your loop, light and casual or warm and cuddly. You have the choice.

You'll see, knitting a loop goes so fast that you'll be knitting a model for every season.
