You have turned on the dishwasher and see that the appliance is not drawing water ">

Malfunctions on the dishwasher do not always have to be based on major problems. Often there are simple causes that are resolved in a few simple steps. With our tips, you avoid high costs because you get to a solution without the assignment of a specialist company. If there is a technical defect that can not be resolved, a specialist can be consulted or you decide to buy a new dishwasher. The usual prices are between 280 and 1, 400 euros, depending on the design, the brand and the scope of service. But first of all, all options should be used to remedy the causes of the malfunction itself.

Problems and solutions

1. Water supply is closed

If the water inlet is not open, the water can not be pumped into the machine. First check that the inlet is open. The tap is usually under the sink. In addition, a main tap is present, which is directly in the vicinity of the water supply line in the basement. In this case, however, no water would flow in the house.

2. Hoses connected correctly

Check that all dishwasher inlet lines are correctly installed. If there is a faulty attachment, this problem can be detected by modern devices and the program is interrupted. Kinked tubes also cause malfunction.

Check hoses

3. Screens are clogged

Depending on the connection tap and hose, a sieve may be interposed. If this is blocked, the water supply is interrupted.

Assist:

Before you begin to resolve the problem, you must shut off the water supply. Turn the tap on. Even if just no water should flow, after disassembly of the hose is likely to leak water. The dishwasher must also be switched off.

Turn off the water

Step 1: Unscrew the hose and remove the strainer.

Step 2: Clean the sieve under running water.

Tip: Never use detergents. If the sieve is too dirty, you must buy a new sieve.

Step 3: Insert the strainer and reconnect the hose.

Step 4: Turn the water back on and check its functionality.

4th program was interrupted

If the program is interrupted before pumping the water, for example due to the outrushing of a fuse, water will not get into the machine. Therefore check if the program is still active, the door is closed and the stop button was not accidentally pressed.

Check dishwasher door

5. Hose is clogged or defective.

Although blockages in the tubing are rare, they can occur due to deposits. In most cases, it is recommended to replace the hose. If the hose is broken, it may also have come to a water stop, as many modern dishwashers can detect the problem.

Switch off fuses

Proceed as follows:

  • Close the water supply and deactivate the fuse.
  • Pull out the dishwasher if possible. (For a built-in machine, you may have to carry out further dismantling)
  • Place a container for escaping water under the connection.
  • Unscrew the hose. It is attached to the machine on one side and to the faucet on the other side.
  • Fit the new hose, slide the machine back and turn on the water.

Cost: 4 to 20 euros

6. Problems during pumping lead to problems with the water supply

To prevent it from drying out, there is always a little water in the pump sump. This is pumped out before the actual start of the selected program. This point can lead to errors:

  • If there is no water in the pump sump, you can fill in a little water and start the program again.
  • If there is a problem with the pumping function, the water can not be pumped out and no new water will flow. Eliminate the problems with the water casserole. Possible causes are:
    • pump defective
    • Water flow disturbed
    • Hose defective
    • kinked hose
    • Sieve dirty
    • Hoses clogged

7. Faulty solenoid valve

The solenoid valve is located at the water inlet. If you hear a buzzing or humming instead of the water inlet, the solenoid valve may be defective. It can be replaced, with spare parts usually having to be obtained from the manufacturer. The testing of the solenoid valve requires knowledge of the circuit diagram so that a specialist should be consulted. The solenoid valve can therefore be measured for its functionality.

8. Aquastop triggered or broken

Modern dishwashers are equipped with an aquastop. It is a gray box made of plastic, which is attached to the inlet hose. The task of the Aquastop is to avoid the escape of the water in case of a defect on the hose. Like any component, defects can also occur here. If the Aquastop have triggered, then no more water flows and an exchange is necessary.

Check Aquastop

To check (bucket test) proceed as follows:

  • disassemble the inlet hose on the flushing side
  • hold the hose in a bucket. Within a few seconds, a few liters of water should flow into the bucket.

Tip: To prevent the bucket from overflowing, take precautionary measures and close the tap in good time. It works best for two.

  • If too little water flows, there is a defect. The inlet hose must now be unscrewed at the angle valve on the wall side.
  • The aquastop may have triggered or has a defect.
  • Replace the hose. Be sure to use a new tube with Aquastop.

Cost: A tube with Aquastop costs around 13 to 20 euros. The exact prices depend, among other things, on the length of the hose. Variants without Aquastop are available for about 4 Euro.

Tip: Different types of aquastops are available on the market, so the bucket test may not always be successful. In this case, an error would be displayed even though the aquastop is functional.

Tips for quick readers:

  • check the water supply
  • open the tap
  • replace the hose
  • check the fuses
  • push the door
  • press the start button (if stop button was pressed)
  • Aquastop is defective or has triggered: replace the hose
  • Water was not pumped out
  • Solenoid valve is defective
