Properties of Torx screws

1. T with number: the T in the indication of the screws and bits stands for the name Torx and their size is indicated with a number from 1 to 100. The larger the numbers become, the larger the distances, torques and diameters that must be taken into account during use. An alternative to T with number is a TX with number and describes exactly the same values.
2. Diameter in mm: the diameter is the defining size of Torx screws and shows which screws and bits can be used together. It is given in millimeters, in inches in US and English, and is given by the distance between two opposite points of the inner or outer hexagon. The size of the Torx screws fits perfectly with the outer diameter of the bits.
3. Maximum torque in nm: more important for use than for comparison and the choice of screws and bits is the maximum torque of each size. 4. Type of screw: this name stands for the possible, standardized screws that can be used together with the respective bits. Measure size yourself: instructions
Often, you may not have any measurements on hand to determine Torx screws or bits. You can also calculate it yourself, using the size chart to find the right values quickly and effectively. Whether you only have the screws or the kit, the measuring process always succeeds:
1. To determine the size, you will need a caliper that is sufficient in size to calculate it. The smaller the measurable object, the more difficult it is to determine exact values.
2. Measure either the inside diameter of the screw or the outside diameter of the Torx bit. To do this, position the caliper so that it measures the distance between two tips that are directly opposite each other. In this measurement, you must pay particular attention to the dimensions of the inner diameter of screws, as they are difficult to measure, especially for small screws.
3. Now read off your test result, write down this and compare the measurements with the size chart. It may happen that the dimensions do not match perfectly, as some screws or bits may be worn due to possible wear. You may also use tools that are not standardized, which may also affect the measurement results. Then simply use the dimensions in the table that are closest to you.
